Pheng Lao Mr. Abbott English 9 15 December, 2015 To A Mockingbird Essay In the novel, To Kill A Mockingbird, by harper lee, the setting is based on a little town, Maycomb, as scout grows up she sees the changes in her society, role of women, and courage. Scout learns more about the world as she grows up and she starts to see the discrimination between the blacks and the whites. Scout hears a lot about Boo Radley but never sees him. She knows how her society is bad from the day Tom Robinson’s trial and from all the rumours that were made of Boo Radley. Scout fear and emotion changes grows up throughout the novel to kill a mockingbird when she learns the truth about her society and the world she lives in. Scout notices how her community works and knows why Boo will never come out of his house in this bad, judging society. From being disrespectful to others, Scout grows up being mature like her father, Mr. Atticus. She knows everyone should be treated equally and fair. On the first day of school, Scout had a lot of fights, especially with Walter, but later on, Scout notices how a person should all be equal, so Scout became friends with Walter and gave him respect. In a small town like Maycomb, everyone can make rumours and believe one another just by judging each other. In this community everyone was scared of a house couple blocks away from the Finch household. There was a person living in there named Boo Radley and there were many rumours about him. Miss Stephanie said, boo was sitting in the living room cutting some items from the Maycomb Tribune to paste in his scrapbook. His father entered the room as Radley passed by, Boo drove the scissors unto this parents leg, pulled them out, wiped them on his pants and resumed his activities† (Lee, 11). Answer: Introduction The multicultural group chosen are the Croatians who migrated to Australia in four waves each in a particular year. The first wave began in 1851, then 1947, the 1980s and recently the 1990s. The recent migrants who came as refugees are composed of the middle ages, married and in many numbers professionals thus having a health care encounter with this group require a professional with cultural sensitivity. This paper explores this cultural groups religious, social, economic and cultural beliefs in regards to health care dispensation, perception, seeking, interaction among others (Anon, 2016). The religious perspective of the Croatians is closely related to the Christian calendar. They celebrate the All Saints day on first November, where they pray at the cemeteries putting chrysanthemums as a remembrance of their dear ones (Anon, 2016). Again, the Assumption of Mary on the fifteenth of August involves prayers as well. Moreover, Easter and Epiphany are celebrated in late March and early April and sixth of January respectively. On these special days, clients have special needs and therefore, confirming with them, and their families help meet their desires. For instance, a religious leader may be availed in the hospital to pray for the sick on these special moments. Allowing them to undertake their religious activities is paramount as a nursing intervention, intriguingly, none of their practice related to religion and fasting affects the delivery of care or poses a nursing ethical dilemma (Anon, 2016). As part of the nursing plan of care, the Croatian cuisines are considered according to the clients preference. For instance, breakfast mostly includes toast and fruit light meals. Importantly, morning tea mainly includes ham, sliced meat, pickled vegetables, cheese and fresh bread. Wine or liqueur that is homemade may be added. Also, there could be traditional pastries, cakes, and sweets after the meal. Often, black tea is used during this time. Lunch involves stews or soup immediately followed by vegetables and meat. Fasting is dependent on the clients strength in religion and is carried out in preparation for the special days like Epiphany (Uzun and Sevin 2015, pp.3400-3408.). Many of the Croatians communicate in a voice that is loud and possess a style of communication that is animated. However, they may have communication problems with English and as an enrolled nurse, using a specific and clear language in making decisions that are informed and communicating the clients prognosis is vital for continuity of care (Colic-Peisker 2012, pp.149-166). Moreover, the expectation from most Croatians of maintaining a direct eye contact and keeping a personal space in non-verbal communication is essential. Additionally, most of the Croatians have no direct impediments to seeking health care since they adhere to the modern culture of treatment and maintaining health like doing exercises, frequent checkups, taking prescribed medications from a general practitioner (GPs) among others. One common health practice among the Croatian senior citizens include massage, seeking care by faith healers and herbal medicines because of their experiences in Croatia earlier in life. However, this has changed over time due to modernisation and mixture of cultures. Residential support and care are a fear that most of them evade by refusing to admit their illnesses and pain (Internations.org, 2016). Most of the people from this group experience stressors like social isolation, language barriers, and adoption of a new culture in Australia. Some of the manifestations of these strains include paranoia, depression, low self-esteem among others. Discrimination by all the systems from health, justice, social, economic and others has triggered a mindset of fear and decreased interaction (McAllister 2016, pp.1-17). Both the federal and State governments have tried to tackle this problem by enacting policies similar to those of the Aboriginals and the Torres Strait Islanders and gradually, the problems are fading. Other common stressors for this group are related to normal human fears like death and disability. In a clinical setting, alleviating these concerns through guidance and counseling, health teaching among other interventions can shorten the time of recuperation (Hawkins 2011, pp.248-249). The senior citizens are the group affected by the primary cultural practices in Croatia such as the use of herbal medicines and traditional healers. For instance, a senior man who fled Croatia in the recent immigration phase still clings to the fact that bleeding and pain have to be tolerated by men and it is only women and children who may express their real feeling of it. It significantly hinders the way a nurse can rate the pain that the client is feeling (Morawska 2010, pp.196-197). A case where the client is having abdominal pain due to intestinal obstruction and pretends not to be feeling the intensity of the pain can lead to a misdiagnosis and eventual aggravation of the disease. Therefore, explaining the importance of honesty and openness to the patient helps in the overall and multidisciplinary administration of health care (McAllister 2016, pp.1-17). Since many of them are affiliated to Roman Catholic, death is a moment of observing religious rites and rituals. Administration of the last rite is one of this practices that is given at the time of dying. It is one among the rosarys seven sacraments, and it represents the events of Our Lady and the life of Jesus Christ. They use beads of the rosary as a helper in praying. Moreover, particular families may prefer that a Croatian priest helps the patient during his/her last moments to death for sanctification. The last rite can be conducted just before or immediately after death, and some families may prefer to groom and dress the corpse before being taken to a funeral home. Many of the Croatians prefer being buried according to the Christian ways as opposed to cremation. However, some of the families cremate the dead and return the ashes to the family homeland in Croatia. Therefore, death and burial are dependent although many of them prefer burial as stipulated in the Bible (Dss.gov .au, 2014). The Croatians migrated to Australia in four phases, and some have tightly held to their culture while others have been assimilated into the Australian way of life. Their religious practices and special days are similar to the Christian ways since they embrace Roman Catholicism. Moreover, special cuisines like meat dish, black tea, sweets, and seafood are mostly used by this group. They have a special way of communication which may be in an animated style. Also, some may have a problem communicating in English since The Croatian language is entirely different. They also have stressors like social discrimination and language barrier. Burial and death practices conform to the Roman Catholic ways. Nursing interventions are mainly inclined to cultural sensitivity, altruism, and multidisciplinary engagements. Scott Fitzgerald, we know that Gatsby, the main character, is a mysterious man who doesn’t seem to show much personal growth throughout this book. Although, we do learn a lot about him through what the other characters reveal. We learn many different things about Gatsby through these rumors that it helps give us a better understanding of things. In the beginning of this novel everyone seems to know, or at least have heard, about Gatsby. He is talked about a lot and it is manly in a good way. Gatsby appears to be a very powerful person who also has a lot of respect from people. He has a very strange and kind of mysterious personality. For example when he has his party’s, usually on ever Saturday night, he seems to isolate himself from everyone else there. He is spotted outside with his hands in the air just starring. We begin to hear rumors from other people. Also Catherine says that she heard that Gatsby had inherited his money from either a nephew or a cousin. Gatsby also does another strange thing, he wants to meet with Jordan Baker at his party. We then find out a few days later that Gatsby, Nick, and Daisy are all having tea at Nick’s house. Nick and Gatsby also are becoming closer friends, maybe it’s because Gatsby just wants something. In the final few chapters we finally get to see Gatsby’s true colors. We see that Gatsby is expressing love towards Daisy when they all decide to go to New York for the day. Tom becomes suspicious and accuses Gatsby of having an affair with his wife and also being a bootlegger. Gatsby tells Tom that he and Daisy love one another and that they are going to be together like they once were in the past. Gatsby was wrong and Daisy ends up staying with Tom. Myrtle Wilson is then ran over by Daisy but Gatsby says that he will take the blame and ends up getting shot. At the beginning of this novel we thought that Gatsby was a well liked, popular guy, but it turns out that no one shows up to attend his funeral. Although Gatsby didn’t show much personal growth this story, we were still able to learn a lot about him through the other characters in this novel. This kind of made Gatsby a little less mysterious. Website Analysis The Rhode Island Department of the Attorney General' s Website is very easily accessed through any Internet provider. The domain address for this site is Http://www.riag.state.ri.us. This site was just uploaded in June when Sheldon Whitehouse took office. The site was completely re designed. When the home page is opened, the background is a soft white. The logo for the attorney generals office is a banner across the top of the page. The page shows a small picture of the Sheldon Whitehouse, the attorney general of Rhode Island. The site links are on the left side of the page. These links are broken-down into three categories: The Department, Divisions, and Public Information. Current news is down the right side. Under neither the picture of Sheldon Whitehouse are some other bulleted links. Below that is a contact line that encourages questions and comments. Along the bottom of the page is a navigation bar that gives the user access to any of the links along the left side of the page. Graphics and Design The home page is has a classic WebPages design. The two graphics on the page do the best to not draw away from the overall purpose of the page. The graphics are subtle enough but give it a nice change of pace, other than just text. The design after this is the same on every page. The text or information is on the left and the links are on the right of the page. The links are organized in a block navigation bar. The categories are titled in white with a blue background. The individual links are in black with a yellow background. The navigation box is very user friendly and they work. All of the other information on the page is links also. They are linked in blue hypertext. All information on the home page is linked to articles with more information once selected. Along the left side is the current news. All of the links that are attached to the homepage are design with the same plain white background and have the logo across the top of the page. The links are placed in the same spot. The link turns red when you are actively on that page. And all have the navigation bar at the bottom of the page. The linked pages are mostly text. There only two other pages with graphic these are the linked pages call organizational chart and the Tour of the departments. Content The content of the page is mostly geared toward giving people general information about the office of the Rhode Island Attorney general. The sites content is broken-down into three parts. First the Department, this links pages about Sheldon Whitehouse, the mission, past history, a tour of the department, and an organizational chart. The next part is Divisions; this has links to the four divisions of the office of the Attorney General. These divisions are the Executive, Adminstrative, Criminal, and Civil Divisions. Also has a link to their Policy and Prevention. The last grouping is the Public Information section. The section has links to the Public Information office, Press Releases, and Access to public records. The links also include the Open Meeting Act and Advisory opinions. These links can be accessed from any page on the website. Other links include the Bureau of Criminal investigation, Consumer Information, Domestic Violence, Senior protection, Victim/Witness Assistance, Law enforcement and Judicial links. The Content also includes Press releases of current news and complaints. Ergonomics This site has above average ergonomics, especial for a fairly new site. The site is easily navigated through. Each Link is clearly stated what you are accessing when you click on each individual link. When one clicks a link the page is brought up promptly. The user is given the option to navigate to any page when one selects a page. The home link is always at the top of the page. International Expansion under Tony Kitchner When Tony Kitchner joined the company as the first head of the international division, Jollibee already had a few failed attempts to entry into international markets. Kitchner was very efficient in creating the international division and implementing his strategy. He was instrumental in getting partners with good market connection for Jollibee. This was one of the major problems for Jollibee in its initial shot at international expansion. Kitchner implemented a two-part international strategy which comprised of â€Å"targeting expats† and â€Å"planting the flag. † The idea behind the targeting expats was to ease the company into the unfamiliar market. Although the segment was very small, its success allowed the company to generate momentum for further expansion in the market. By targeting the niche market, Kitchner was trying to take advantage of the brand recognition in the home market. On the other hand, â€Å"plant the flag† proved to be a executed poorly. Kitchner wanted to create big organization under his leadership. In the haste to entry the markets quickly, Kitchner did not study the market thoroughly before entering it. Planting the flag did have competitive first mover advantage like the company found out in its local market. However, there is a need to study the market before entering it. The unprofitable venture in the Middle East could have been avoided has research been done prior to entering. Also, Kitchner neglected the high cost of establishing market in new countries. While Kitchner created the new division to higher international standard there was a growing distance between the local and the international division. The local team were looked down up on by the member in the international division. This did affect the day operational efficiency of the company. Kitchner could have taken some step to curb the growing distance between the two divisions. Future International expansion The undeveloped Papua Guinea market provides the best option to leverage the company’s organizational skills. However, the country is not big enough to support 20 stores which the company thinks is critical mass for a new country. Even though the perspective partner was willing to invest all the money for the stores, Jollibee would have its brand value at risk if the stores don’t work. The profits being offered by the partner is uncertain and understandably low, the company would be better off staying away from this market. The fourth store in Hong Kong can give Jollibee the brand awareness to expand its operations in the country. This could be useful in attracting better partners. However given that the current stores were unable to attract Chinese customers as well as employees, the success of a fourth store is highly unlikely. It would be better for Jollibee to concentrate on improving the operations of the current store than opening a new one at this juncture. The Daly City is currently best opportunity for expansion for Jollibee. With a huge affluent Philippine population and relatively less competition prospects for the success of this store were bright. The Samsung brand encompasses a number of subsidiaries and affiliated businesses, which operate under the Samsung Group, a South Korean conglomerate headquartered in Seoul’s Samsung Town. Steve, who is a close friend, is an extremely loyal customer of the Samsung brand (Kotler & Keller, 2005). From his cell phone to his television and other technological devices, Steve only trusts the Samsung brand. According to Steve, his loyalty to the Samsung brand can be attributed to the company’s robust brand building activities. Steve argues that Samsung’s frequency programs and brand image building activities sustain his loyalty to the brand. ... Steve gave an instance of when his Samsung Galaxy Tablet experienced audio difficulties and upon taking it to a Samsung service centre, the problem was fixed almost instantly at no cost. Therefore, Samsung maintains and reinforces its positive brand image, thus maintaining the loyalty of customers such as Steve. Trust plays a pivotal role in enhancing attitudinal and behavioural loyalty to the Samsung brand (Clottey, Collier & Stodnick, 2008). Since Steve trusts Samsung products, as well as the brand’s positive image, he believes that Samsung’s competitive brands such as Toshiba, Sony and Nokia are relatively unreliable, particularly with regard to the quality of their products, as well as after sales services such as servicing, repair and maintenance. Steve also believes that certain competitive brands are targeted at specific markets such as Asian markets in the case of Toshiba products. Based on Steve’s assertions, it is clear that Samsung’s brand equit y is extremely strong, thus the Samsung brand is one of the company’s most valuable assets, which consequently enhances the financial value of the company (Jensen & Hansen, 2006).
